Self-esteem is the opinion we have of ourselves. When we have healthy self-esteem, we tend to feel positive about ourselves and about Life in general. It makes us better able to deal with Life’s “ups and downs.”
However, when our self-esteem is low, we tend to see ourselves and our Life in a more negative and critical light. We also feel less able to deal with the challenges Life brings to us.
We all have times when we lack confidence and do not feel good about ourselves. Having low self-esteem isn’t a mental health problem in itself; however they are closely linked. If lots of things affect your self-esteem for a long time, that might lead to mental health problems, for example, anxiety and depression.
Some of the experiences of low self-esteem can be signs of a mental health problem, particularly if they last for a long time or affect your day-to-day Life. For example: Feeling hopeless or worthless; unfairly blaming yourself; hating yourself; worrying about being unable to do things.
To boost your self-esteem and confidence you need to identify the negative beliefs you have about yourself and then challenge them and then replace them with positive beliefs….this is where hypnotherapy can help you.
